Should I hire a writer for wedding vows?

So I saw an ad online for a writer offering to write wedding vows. Do you think this is a good idea? It seems to me that having someone else write your romantic thoughts for you could turn out like a million movies that have already been made. You whip out all this romantic prose and then she expects that from you and it turns out you're just regular ol' Joe. My answer would be No and here's why. You asked the question, what happens if you get caught? that means you are going to try to pretend you wrote this all on your own. I would assume your fiance knows you pretty well, well enough to know you would never write anything like that, no?

I think it's better to write some ideas down and then maybe have a close friend help you with it, if you really need that much help. But your fiance is marrying you, they want to hear your words, not someone else's, as romantic as it might seem. Why not be yourself? If you're not creative with your words, then why not use standard vows? Is it that important to have special vows if they aren't your own?

Actually why not just google "wedding vows" and just read over a bunch of vows people wrote, don't copy but just read stuff. Sleep on it for a while, then sit down to jot down some notes one day.

Advise on long-distance photography

I want to take pictures of ships in Puget Sound using a tripod and relatively easy to use and modestly inexpensive camera. The ships are often 3-4 miles distant and obviously the weather anywhere from bright sun to foggy. I am not knowledgeable about cameras and I don't particularly want to be at this point. That means I might fiddle a bit with settings, but mostly I want to let the camera do the majority of the work.

So far, it looks like the Canon 50SX HS is the camera I think fits the bill best. It has a 50X zoom, 12 megapixels and can be used as a point and shoot as well as allow some manual adjustments. Plus it is available for under $400.

I am not willing to spend more than $800 and I feel more comfortable with much less. This would pretty much be a dedicated camera for this function so I just want to get clear, sharp pictures of ships several miles away with a good zoom. They typically are not moving more than 15-20 knots per hour, so leisurely.

Any suggestions on a camera I am overlooking that might suit my needs better than the SX50? Or have I chosen a good one for my needs?

One bride's top 3 priorities for vendors

Since I can't speak for all brides (can anyone?) I'll just speak for myself...

Being a DIY bride, my first priority regarding vendors was involving friends (who I dubbed "friendors").

Our photographer is a photojournalist who had just started her own company. The woman who made my corset is a friend who has been making them semi-professionally for years. The woman who made the rest of my dress works on costuming for television and film. One of my bridesmaids did my makeup, and I styled my own hair. A hairstylist friend cut and colored both my and my husband's hair. They all offered us tremendous discounts on their services, for which we are eternally grateful.

Our second priority for vendors was their being local.

For example, I went to a nail salon a couple blocks from my house on the morning of our wedding, since I have only gotten acrylics put on a few times in my life. We didn't know the caterer personally before our wedding but she is a friend-of-a-friend and a local. We purchased our (sterling silver rather than gold) wedding rings at a jewelry store owned and operated by a local celebrity I've long admired.

The venue (a local nature center) was also new to us, but is located near my alma mater. We became members as part of our rental agreement, and enjoy visiting whenever possible. We chose that venue because it's nearby, affordable and a place we can revisit through the years while cherishing the memories of our special day there.

Our third priority for vendors was convenience.

We rented my husband's tux and the groomsmen's vests/ties from Men's Warehouse. The bridesmaids happened to agree on a dress from David's Bridal. The officiant (also a friend) purchased a saree online. Using those vendors made things much easier for our wedding party.

Depth of Field and Focal Length - Event Photography

From any given distance and at any given aperture, a wide angle lens gives greater depth of field than a longer focal length lens. This leads many photographers to rely on the wide angle lens for increased depth sharpness in their pictures. They feel that accurate focus will be less critical and that they can use a larger aperture and still retain greater depth of field than they would with a longer lens.

This works out nicely in practical picture taking provided you use the same aperture and shooting distance for each picture. Then, the shot taken with the wide angle lens always shows greater depth of field, even at greater degrees of enlargement.

But suppose you use the wide angle lens to move in close and get the principle subject the same size on the film as you would with the longer lens and a more distant viewpoint. What happens to your depth of field then? Well, in this case, the wide angle lens does not give greater depth of field. Even this does not always apply but you will find in most picture taking situations that when lenses of different focal lengths are used to produce the same size image on the film, the depth of field is the same when the same aperture is used, regardless of focal length.

All this may seem to be of purely theoretical interest, but it does have practical applications and can help you to avoid some pitfalls into which many a photographer has fallen. For instance if you purchase a wide angle lens to achieve a greater viewing angle from any given distance, well and good. However, if you purchase a wide angle lens with the idea that it will provide greater sharpness in depth than your normal or tele lens, remember that this will not be true if you use the wide angle lens to give the same size image on the film as the longer lens gives. Only by closing down the aperture of your lens, wide angle, normal, or tele, can you be sure of getting an actual gain in sharpness with images of the same size.

The impossibility of maintaining image size on the film while altering depth of field by changing focal lengths obviates some photographic old wives' tales. One tale suggests you use a wide angle lens for greater depth in close-ups. This rarely works. If you photograph the same picture area with a long focal length lens, your actual depth of sharpness between objects in the picture is the same at the same aperture.

The conclusion that can be drawn is: choose your focal length lens primarily for image size needed and apparent perspective desired.

Photo albums: one or more?

My photographer promised us 500+ pictures between her and her partner. They really went over and above when they provided us with DVDs containing 1261 photos. I'm trying to narrow them down so we can order a photo album, but I really love so many of them!

Instead of cutting the number of photos down low enough to be included in one album, I'm thinking of having one extra special album made of the ceremony only, and then a couple less expensive albums of the pre-ceremony set up and post-ceremony reception.

Has anyone else ordered more than one photo album, and if so, do you think it was worth the extra expense?

Seating chart question

Looking for advice: when creating seating charts for dinner, do you tend to put people together who know each other or mix them up?

I thought it would be fun to mix them up so they could get to know different people and they could always move around after dinner.

Some of the most fun weddings I have been to was where I have been seated with strangers.

The last wedding I went to had me seated at a table with people I knew very well. We had a great time together though we did not mingle very much with the guests we didn't know.

I went to an out-of-town wedding once where I didn't know anybody (my husband was performing and I was his guest). We sat at a table with a bunch of strangers who quickly became friends. Two of them even came to our wedding.

I think it depends on your guests. Family would probably prefer to sit with each other, while friends and other guests may be more open to mixing it up. Perhaps you'd consider mixing the bride and groom's family members at some tables, and mixing the friends at other tables.

A few things to consider... Is the person coming as a single or couple? I went to a wedding alone once and knew nobody! It was a little awkward for me because I tend to be shy in strange situations, but my table mates were so nice and friendly and I appreciated my friend seating me with them. So if someone is coming alone and shy, careful where you seat them. At our wedding we had a few guests who spoke no English so we sat them at a table with people who spoke their language. We had a couple guests who didn't get along so we sat them separately. As for couples, we tended to keep groups who knew each other together, but mixing is fine too.

Corporate events reflect your company image

Setting up corporate events for your company can greatly help your company image. For example, it will increase the reputation of your company and even bring forth new employees or customers. Depending on what kind of company you have, you double your sales, and bring in more interested customers. You'd be surprised by how powerful corporate can be, especially when it is in person. People are more likely to buy or check some of the services that you have to offer them. Today  we have put together some tips on how to start a corporate event.

The Importance of throwing a successful event for your company For those who want to throw an event for the company, there are a few things you need to do before this. For example, in order to have a successful event, you must carefully plan out the location of the place, what types of products will be offered, how to gain the attention of the public, informational materials, and so on.

Here are a few tips for you:

Set up a location for your corporate event. Make sure it is an easy to find place. If people aren't able to find it, they may give up and go back home. The location should have enough parking available around the area and not be too crowded.

Use company brochures to pass out to people. You want them to learn more about what your company does. This is called raising reputation. They might even share the brochure with some friends or business associates.

One of the most powerful ways to lead a corporate event is by setting up a conference. Don't just set up any conference. Add a Powerpoint projection or a video which explains your company. Visualization automatically gets people interested and you might even have a few customers buying or purchasing your products.

Studio light question

I'm looking to get some studio lights. I'm thinking about starting with umbrellas because they are so much cheaper than the soft-boxes, although I hear that the umbrellas ribs can be visible in the pictures. I'm thinking about the continuous lights set up. Again, because it's the least expansive option. But I want to know what wattage would be sufficient? I saw a two piece set with two 350 Watts bulbs. Would 700 watts be enough to shoot at f/16, 1/200 second?

Controlling light with an umbrella is like herding cats. They spill light everywhere. So many people start with umbrellas only to buy better equipment after suffering with lousy equipment; thereby spending more and producing poor photos until they realize the source of their inability to produce the lighting they pre-visualize. It's a tragedy I've seen repeated many times. I'm sure 700 watts will be sufficient to shoot at f16 and 1/200, but at some ridiculously high ISO.

I don't have a lot of room for a dedicated photo studio, so the convenience of being able to fold up an umbrella and stick it in the corner works better that a big soft box for me. You can see the ribs, but only on highly reflective subjects:

Wedding song ideas

My biological dad is technically in the picture, but did pretty much nothing for me growing up and now. My step dad came into my life when I was 9, and I consider him my dad. I had "I loved her first" all picked out, but now I'm thinking I want to do a song that acknowledges him and my mom since she was my "dad" for the first 9 years.

The "issues", so to speak:
1. My real dad will be at the wedding. I'm going to explain to him that my step dad will be doing the father of the bride stuff, but my goal is to not totally break his heart. (He was never there for me, but I don't want to be flat out mean)
2. My step dad and mom have been divorced for the last 10 years, and he is remarried. (All the more reason I respect him and want to honor him. He still acts as my dad even though he doesn't have to.)
3. After picking "I loved her first", I found out that was one of my best friend's song with her dad. She said she doesn't mind that I'm using the same song, but I can see that it does kind of bother her (not that she would ever say it or hold it against me though). I just feel like with a million songs out there, there has to be another one that fits and that I don't have to "steal" from someone else.

I was thinking of a song that talks about both parents that I could switch from my step dad to my mom in the middle. A country song would be ideal, but I am open to all suggestions. Thanks!

Ceremony on Steps?

So, a couple is getting married on the riverbank at a new marina recently built at our city. The reception will be held in a building above where they want to get married. The reception building is elevated and the ground is level beneath it, where we considered having the ceremony. But, the sun doesn't shine there and has a dark/damp feeling. So, we are considering having the ceremony on the steps beneath the reception building leading to the water. But, I have no idea how to setup the ceremony where there are steps, where the people would sit. I mean the steps are wide enough…I would say each step is 4 feet long, and a little more than a foot high… Rolled Carpet? White Folding Chairs?

Typically, chairs on steps not a good idea unless it's seated like a movie stadium seating where it is going up, not down and they would have to be very wide steps in order to have chairs and still have plenty of room for people to walk by, like a big spacious movie theater where you can walk by the other people without them having to flinch. Otherwise it's too dangerous to have chairs on the stairs. I also need to talk to the reception hall as they would be the ones to set this up for us and may or may not even allow it.

Boat vs Beach Wedding Event

My fiance has given me a $5000 budget to plan a wedding. We're getting married next year. He has suggested to do it on a yacht. I've looked into it and a couple of my friends have had their own weddings on a boat as well but said it was crowded for 40 people. We're having about 50 and the next size up for most companies requires 70 people. But this way I don't have to plan anything, its all included. Now he wants to do our honeymoon on a cruise ship so I don't really want to be on a boat twice even though it'll be different, so I've looked into having our ceremony on the beach, which suits my dress very well. This is not all inclusive so I have to do all the planning myself which is fine. The pricing is about the same either way we go, but what are you're opinions?

Its a waterfront property its on the second floor of a small community building. i can rent it out for 8 hours as opposed to 6 hours (4hrs cruising) on a boat. both places are small but the beach building would be less cramped and i can decorate it how i want. not to mention using the lawn or wander the beach part. I was leaning towards it before he even mentioned the boat. I've found a cheap cater too but don't know if I want to spend money on that. All inclusive would be preferable. I've found this other place on the beach in another city that does it. I dont know if its in my budget so I've just emailed them to find out.

It really depends on your personal tastes. I just recently attended a wedding on a boat. It was 120 guests, the boat claimed to hold 150 but there was barely room to move and it was HOT in the dining room at dinner. The food was mediocre, the cake was mediocre but there was an open bar. It was definitely NOT my ideal wedding.

I would personally much more enjoy a wedding on the beach, even if it were a potluck bbq. I'm kind of a germophobe so I don't really dig on potlucks too much but I can usually find some store bought potato salad or something to munch on.

Obviously the feel of the boat wedding vs. the beach wedding are going to be very different. So what do you feel inclined to do? What is your vision for the beach wedding? Is there a beach near you that can be reserved so strangers don't crash your wedding, or is that even an issue for you?

Thinking of changing systems

I'm currently using a Canon EOS digital system with an XT and a 30D.

The XT has around 5K clicks and the 30D around 1K. Hardly used and both bought new.

My issue is that the whole setup has bad memories attached to it. Let me attempt to explain...

I always loved photography and would get the occasional bit of money in, doing photography for fun. Then somebody close to me sold me on the idea of going pro (which I really didn't want to do and didn't have any real desire to do). Needless to say they had me spend a shit load of money that really I would rathe rnot have spent. That individual was quite some scam artist and I am very relieved I have nothing to do with that individual any more.

I'm left with a load of studio stuff and EOS stuff that while I love using it, has those memories attached.

I was very happy just taking photos for myself. In fact I've even used photos that I've taken myself to illustrate a couple of books I wrote. I will freely admit the photos in the book aren't perfect - they're merely there to illustrate what an ordinary Joe can achieve. I seem to be lambasted for them whatever and you know something - I just don't care.

Anyway, I'm looking at losing a shit load of money on all this. I spent 50k on each camera and they're now worth very little more than half a pound of pig dung despite the fact they work perfectly and have had little to no use. I absolutely hate that. I need to cleanse myself of the bad memories so it looks like I should sell everything.

Displaying your work

Tablets seem to be a great way of displaying your work. I absolutely love being able to display my work on a tablet. I did buy the wrong tablet though. I bought a Nook Color. It's got a great display and shows my pictures phenomenally. Just one tiny problem - it goes bananas in humidity. I was showing my stuff in a crowded room and the humidity got to it - the screen was either flipping through images on its own or it was totally dead and unresponsive. Very embarrassing!

So... I'm selling my Nook Color on ebay and thinking of replacing it with something else. My tablet worked just fine for the first 30 minutes but as ever more bodies crammed into the room - it was a Chamber of Commerce after hours event, the humidity in the room rose and the thing started malfunctioning.

I'm really thinking of getting some 6x4 prints made and just spiral binding them. Any suggestions? Is there such a thing as a reliable tablet that costs half of an iPad or less or must I get an iPad?

Obtain vinyl lyric for etching

I would like to create an etching on a window (about 2'x4') of lyrics from a nursery song. It would be nice to incorporate some simple graphics to enhance this etching. Anyone know where I can go to get this designed and/or cut out of vinyl so I can attach to the glass and apply an etching compound?

I've seen many web sites that have graphics and others that have letters but none that lets you create something (like a computer file) and use as a template.

While I don't have one, it sounds like something a Cricut could do. There are several font styles and sizes to choose from. Since the window is so large, the stencil letters may need to be cut in rows or sections. Of course the vinyl does not need to cover the entire window, just the area for the lettering and graphics. I don't know what kind of vinyl to use or where you'd have this done (unless you have your own machine), but I'm sure someone here will chime in.

Reminder Warning

No one thinks it will happen to them but we just had a couple have all their envelopes stolen at their wedding at a hotel venue. It was so sad, it was a modest wedding they saved for and the gift $$ were going toward the honeymoon-to cover room, meals and extras. They had already purchased plane tickets for and can't get refunds. So, you think it won't happen to you? Neither did they.

People need to realize that crime happens
There are people who will go to events for this purpose
Anything you have of value needs to be protected

If you have gifts or money, somebody needs to watch over it!

Today's term is Lossy/Lossless files

When a digital camera takes a photo, the image data is stored on a memory card as a computer file. If the data is stored fully, the file is called a lossless file. These files are quite large in size. The most common type of lossless file in use are TIFFs. To cut down on large file sizes, the camera can throw away parts of the data that the human eye probably won't notice anyway. These files are called lossy. The most common type of lossy file are JPEGs. Caution should be taken when using JPEGs if image quality is important. NB: mp3 music files work in a similar way. The original, complete music file, is stripped down leaving only the bits that the human ear is sensitive to left behind.

I know that was one gift I never gotten now for my sister she got that gift and every time I got into an argument with her she started throwing those big words at me I would never know what to say.

I got the golden hands I can almost fix anything, they would be bring me all kinds of things what this? bang boom this is what it does.

I lost my father at an early age and I ran the streets doing whatever, I dropped out of school like a dummy. Those were the mistakes I made. When I worked I always made it to the top. I'm self taught at everything or show me once and I got it.

When I taught myself computers back in the 80's my youngest sister another word brain child and she's on the phone with my computer brain brother-in-law trying to figure out the problem I wanted to use the phone to call my girl up so I can go get lay, boy she holler at me, what's the problem I'm trying to fix my computer, give me that thing.

I fdisk and reformatted the hard drive and put a program on it which was called powermenu and I give it back to her but where's my program at I think it was called gyro no windows. I hit a button here it is OH how did you learn how to do that? I said never you mind.

I ran my computer repair shop for other 15 years and I was one of the best in the city, everybody came to me and I still get calls. I known all over I had guys come in and tell me we were in a bar in Delaware N guys were talking about you to them selves yea bring your computer to the gadgetman, I was in a restaurant and they switch up on my seafood platter to a fisherman special which was bull crap I was flipping out a guy stood up that's the computer guy.

I had guys beg me to teach them I always told them I don't think about it I just do it it's second nature to me. I was flying through this one guys computer and he said you don't want nobody to learn what I want to get you done so I can move on to the next one.

There's times I read what I have written and said what did I write. The only way to learn something is to do it over and over again so I keep writing the best I know how.

When I closed my store down I was in another guy's store saying I need a job, a guy turn around and said why don't you start one cause that's what I do. I can talk better then I write I stumble on words but I'll keep trying. Running to the fblimit but thanks for the good luck. Peace.

Anyone know anything about stereo ohms, etc.?

I just got a very nice stereo receiver. If I'm understanding this correctly, it has the ability to put out at 4 ohms if need be. The manufacturer reads a certain number of watts at 4 ohms, or more watts at 8 ohms. I'm assuming that means that the receiver can drive either 4 ohm or 8 ohm speakers, is that correct?

I'm also under the impression that 4 ohm speakers are better than 8 ohm speakers. If so, why? I'm guessing 4 ohm can deliver a much more pure sound. Next, will 4 ohm speakers hurt an amp that is NOT 4 ohm capable, or will the amp hurt the speakers? From what little I could gather on this from the tons of opinions on the internet, is that if you have 4 ohm speakers, it will ultimately toast your receiver.

The stereo output is actually limited to the amount of CURRENT it can safely put out. Knowing ohms law, the mfg takes the known applied voltage and maximum current and converts this to the RESISTANCE of the speakers one should hook up. R=V/i. But let us think CURRENT in terms of i=V/R. If R is too low (voltage is fixed) then I (amps) will go too high and either open the power supply fuses or let smoke out of the wires (burn up some components)

1. I'm assuming that means that the receiver can drive either 4 ohm or 8 ohm speakers, is that correct? All things being equal, 4Ω will handle 2X as much current as 8Ω speakers.
2. I'm also under the impression that 4 ohm speakers are better than 8 ohm speakers. If so, why? Sounds better depends on other characteristics but LOUDER is BETTER (generally).
3. Next, will 4 ohm speakers hurt an amp that is NOT 4 ohm capable, or will the amp hurt the speakers?

The speakers will attempt to draw MORE current than the amp is safely capable of handling. When in doubt - follow the mfg recommended instructions. If there is a help section on the mfg website - give them a call when they are on available hours.

Video camera storage/orientation question

I have a 2003 Panasonic DVX-100A (3 CCD digital camera) in a Pelican case. I have cut out the Pelican foam so the camera fits snugly in a space and can't move in any direction. For reasons not worth getting into, I would like to rotate the orientation of the interior Pelican foam, so when the case is in the carrying/upright position, the camera will (now) be upside down. But when opening/storing/some transport it will be oriented on its side.

Is there anything wrong with this, having a (or this) digital video camera spend parts of it's time upside down? Otherwise I will have to buy new foam and redo cutting open the spaces for the camera and peripherals.

I finally figured out that as long as the camera has adequate foam on all 6 sides for cushioning/impact protection, orientation should be irrelevent. Depending on the foam density, you will want a minimum of 1" on all 6 sides when the case is closed. You also don't want the foam to be compressed much when the camera is stored. The foam needs to be able to absorb the impact energy; something it can't do if it's already compressed near its limit. I little compression when stored is fine (and somewhat desirable) so that the foam can "suspend" the camera in it's place.

K-Cup/Pod coffee makers for coffee snobs?

I guess I'm what some people would refer to as a "coffee snob" (although, I know there are a lot of people who are a lot more snobby than I am). I go out for coffee twice a day, and I can literally open my front door and throw a rock at 4 or 5 places that sell really good coffee (Blue Bottle, Stumptown, Counter Culture, intelligentsia, etc.) But, I'm going to be moving to a place where that isn't possible anymore. I live alone, and like 2 cups a day, I'd rather not be making pots of coffee at a time, so I was thinking about getting one of the k-cup/pod machines. Will I be happy? Are there pods with really good coffee? how about pretty good coffee? Also, I know they make pods that you can fill yourself, but I've heard not so great things about them. Any suggestions for machines and or pods?

Cool lighting video (not instructional)

Thought you guys would enjoy. It's a video showing the effect that different light positions and hues have on a person's face.

My favorite camera for getting a quick shot

When something shows up in my yard that might fly away any second is a Panasonic FZ 200 with it's 25-600mm equivalent full range F2.8 lens--with one very irritating exception. Every time it's turned on or every time it goes into sleep mode the auto focus area returns to the next to smallest auto focus area--I almost always want the pinpoint setting which takes an awkward two steps to set. Custom setting modes don't apparently keep this setting.

Maybe I don't know something about the custom modes ?

I've heard of people hacking camera software ?

I just got a poorly focused shot of an Indigo Bunting which I've never seen before--I'd be willing to blow off the warranty.

I have several other cameras including another Panasonic--a Lumix GH3 that stay where ever I set them.

Wireless Internet Problems

I have a Macbook Pro w/ Retina and for the past few months, I've been experiencing wireless internet dropouts. When the internet goes out...

1. The comp still has full WiFi bars
2. I go to "network status" under network settings for my Mac. The colors next to the "internet" and "server" are yellow while the rest remain green. Sometimes the "internet" and "server" go back to being green but the internet still doesn't work.

There is another Apple computer on the same network and it doesn't experience internet dropouts.

I've run an Apple Hardware test to test the health of the wireless card and the simple and thorough tests both came back with no problems found.

What gives? Any ideas?

Mega Pixel question

Ok so I really enjoy doing video and have started getting into photography as well. Right now I have a Canon hfm31 camcorder that also does stills. It says it is a 3 megapixel camera and it takes really nice photos. I liked this camcorder because it had aux mix input for my rode shotgun mic. I also have a go pro hero 3 silver edition which is 11 megapixels and have taken a few videos so far with it.

My question is this : How come photos taken with the go pro 11 megapixel to me don't look as good or as clear as photos taken with my camcorder which is only 3 megapixels. I mean I know my canon was around 800 new and the go pro was only 300 new but I figured it would take much cleaner pics being 11 mega pixel. One reason I ask is I am debating on putting another camera in my line up but I don't have a ton of cash so I was looking in the 500 dollar range and the 2 cameras I was looking at were: The canon sx 50: it does video has a built in long zoom lens, Does HDR etc and seems like a pretty good all in one. 12.1 mp

The Nikon d3200: it does video as well but has interchangeable lens I am not sure I want to get into all the different lens's but I may just haven't decided yet. 24.2 mp I do this more for fun not as a professional or anything. I do enjoy Photoshop and after effects and doing special type effects. Any advice would be great.

When do you buy the wedding gift?

Got an invite for a wedding which will be in mid-April. They are already registered. Do I buy the gift now, and have it sent to them? Or sent to me and bring it with to the wedding? There are only a few items they have that are within my budget, so I would like to buy those before they're gone, but wasn't sure whats the etiquette on gift giving.

I enjoyed getting gifts in the mail and being able to open them with my husband after the wedding with all the other gifts. Take into consideration the location of the wedding. If they have a longer drive to get home, or if they live out of the area that they are getting married, mail it to them.

Wow check out this wedding nightmare story

The biggest problem was dealing with my now-husband.
He would get all bent out of shape anytime I brought up the subject.
We had set the date and I planned a very small gathering in a natural setting. Suddenly all that had to be changed to accommodate my husband's family. That left me with two months to plan a wedding for 60 people. Half of his relatives I invited out of obligation didn't RSVP or even show up.
The total party was about 20.
I ended up cancelling the caterer and let my friends and husband prepare the food----which was a mistake.
It was such a stressful experience for me because I had to do everything else and work that around a 55-70 hour work week.
He and I fought over how much things cost. And to be honest the cost was very reasonable. I made this wedding happen all for about $2000.00. No loans taken out or anything. I worked 3 jobs to make it happen.
In addition to that he still complains about what I spent on his wedding band which was $599.00 for a wide 14K white gold band. I wish I never told him when he asked. He asked me days before the wedding and when I told him, he threw a tantrum. Out of anger he told me he wasn't going to wear it, and that he wasn't going to smile for the pictures.
I ended up canceling my photographer because he complained about the price. An acquaintance said she'd do it for $200.00.
She was to take plenty of pictures, edit them, and put them on a disc. When my husband threw a fit, I cancelled on her. I wished I hadn't have done that. And tried to get her services back two days after cancelling on her, but she had already made other plans.
I'd imagine if I could do it all over again---I'd run far far away lol.

I recently acquired a Cannon AE-1

It was made anywhere from 1976-1984. I know NOTHING about cameras, it belonged to my boyfriends grandfather, and was given to me. Is this worth the trouble to try and take pictures with? It looks like it is in perfect condition, I am starting to read the manual to see how to use it.

Would a camera this old still take quality photos? Right now I just use my iPhone, and have always wanted to get a nicer camera, just never wanted to spend the money since I only like taking pictures of my pets. I don't mind learning and would like to keep it, since it belongs in the family, although I have learned how to open the film part, and it looks like it has NEVER been used, same with the battery cache.

I really just want to take better pictures of my dog, and maybe occasionally feel like a hipster.
